Hot Child in the City | Chicago IL, Baby Phogography

I have been waiting for this session for a long time. Why? Well because I got to photograph Miss Leila when she was still in her mamas belly and then when she was a tiny, squishy newborn. And...she shares a birth day with my Nolan. We are definitely meant to be friends :) When I see my newborns on their first birthdays I like to think they remember me. After all we did spend quite a bit of time together, and I am pretty sure Leila knew who I was ;)
And let me tell you, this girl knows how to work the camera. It was so cute to see her pose and smile.
One of the best parts of this job is feeling connected to people and this was definitely a special session.

The truth is....

I grew up in Poland. And constantly witnessed friend's baby siblings nursing. It was normal. Although I must admit there was still a time before I had my own kids that I did found it a little weird and sometimes mildly uncomfortable. I have since gotten used to women breastfeeding, even in public, even at the dinner table :) So having grown up this way I knew that is something we are just supposed to do. That's how babies eat.
I must admit it was not at all easy to breastfeed in the beginning. My boobs were way too huge and full of milk and I had such a hard time getting Nolan to latch on. I felt like I was failing and both of us spent our fist few days together crying in frustration. But I stuck with it and I learned. The second time was a breeze.
The truth is breast milk is the best milk for our babies. The truth is that it's hard to breastfeed especially in the beginning. The truth is many women give up because they don't have the proper support or feel that it's weird. The truth is there is a law that gives women and babies the right to breastfeed in public. The truth is it shouldn't be weird. And the truth is, it's up to us to normalize it.

So in light of World Breastfeeding Week let's shine some light on feeding our babies.

Grand Olde Time | Bristol Renaissance Faire Family Photography

Barb was one of my midwives and I have known her and her littles for quite a while now. She recently introduced me to the Renaissance Faire, an event her family participates in every year. So we thought it would be a neat idea to do her family shoot there. This place totally rocked my socks and it just might be one of the best places on earth. So it worked out pretty well, one of the most awesome families at one of the most awesome places :)

A magical time | Fairy Tale Mini Sessions

My mind has been hard at work these past few days. I swear I feel like I just birthed a brain baby and it.was.big. :)
As nervous as I was to even begin, it turns out I have been having a blast setting up for the mini sessions, doing test shoots, gathering props. Of course I had some amazing help and models who braved the 150 degree weather (or at least that's what it felt like ;)
The sets for girls are complete. Well, in my mind they are. I will be working on ideas for boys next. I don't want to put everything out in the open because I would like to leave an element of surprise when my clients arrive.

Sleepy Smiles | Carol Stream IL, Newborn Photography

I really pride myself on being able to capture those sleepy smiles almost every time.
But it never seizes to amaze me. And I often find myself looking at the sleeping babe wondering what he is dreaming about. My guess is swimming in a sea of milky boobs ;) but who knows, really. I do know this for sure, Liam is one handsome little boy and I'm so glad he liked me enough to let me photograph him and move him around :)

A magical time | Fairy Tale Mini Sessions

This has been brewing in my head for a long time and it's finally happening. It's super exciting and a bit scary as I hope I can arrange all my ideas as beautifully on the outside as they are on the inside :) I will be working in the next few weeks on the set ups and gathering props, conjuring up outfit ideas and I even have a very talented lady making bows and hats! Please check back here for any updates on the sessions or to see the sample set ups:)
The times for the mini sessions are as follows:
4:00, 4:40, 5:10, 5:50, 6:30
30 minute sessions with a 10min break in-between to re-center or to allow a bit of extra time for the kiddos who are a bit shy or might be having a not so great day :)
Once you book your session and the 50% deposit is received you will get a mini-session welcome packet with the location as well as some tips and ideas.
